Cohort Profile: The Australian Gulf War Veterans’ Health Study cohort
Abstract: This article examines the Australian Gulf War Veterans’ Health Study cohort, which was established in 2000. There was concern that some Gulf War-related exposures and experiences, such as possible exposure to depleted uranium, chemical or biological weapons, anti-biological warfare medications or smoke from burning oil wells may have resulted in health problems among Australian Gulf War veterans. The establishment of the cohort aimed to facilitate both cross-sectional and longitudinal investigations of the health and occupational exposures of Australian Gulf War veterans and a military comparison group.
