Fighting Their Own Battle: Families of Veterans with Substance Use Problems - Main Report
Abstract: The aim of the study was to understand the experiences and needs of families of veterans with substance use problems (FVSUs), consider how these differ from the families of nonveterans with substance use problems, and use the findings to develop a new model of support for FVSUs. Such research is needed given the high prevalence of substance use problems (particularly alcohol) among both serving personnel and veterans, and the fact that little is known about how families can be affected by a veteran’s substance use.
