Aged Veterans Fund evaluative report

Abstract:This evaluative report examines the Aged Veterans Fund—a £30 million initiative delivered between 2016 and 2017—to address the wellbeing, social care, and health needs of older veterans (born before 1 January 1950). Conducted by the University of Chester’s Westminster Centre, the study reviewed 78 evaluation documents and identified 10 thematic areas, including improved resilience, reduced social isolation, enhanced clinical referrals, and effective partnership working. Findings show widespread positive perceptions from beneficiaries, staff, and volunteers, with indications of cost-effective outcomes and influence on NHS practices such as hospital readmission rates. The report culminates in recommendations for sustainable, person‑centred, and collaborative approaches to support ageing veterans.
