Walking Forwards with Moral Injury: Narratives from Ex-serving Australian Defence Force Members

The purpose of this study was to understand Australian veteran's experiences of moral injury. 11 participants took part in, in-depth face to face interviews. Analysis of the transcripts identified one overarching theme—walking forwards with moral injury— and three sub-themes: (a) meaning-making and moral injury, (b) narratives of transformation, and (c) leading the charge. These findings enhance knowledge of the mechanisms needed to better support veterans living with moral injury in Australia.
