Neurosurgical management of penetrating spinal cord injury in the French Armed Forces during the Afghan campaign

Abstract: From March 2010 to June 2013, the French neurosurgical team at Kabul International Airport (KaIA) role 3 hospital managed 11 cases of war-related penetrating spinal cord injuries (W-PSCIs), involving both French soldiers and Afghan civilians. The mean age of the patients was 27 years, with injuries distributed across the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Each patient underwent a full-body CT scan upon admission to assess the extent of their injuries.
