Abstract: US Veterans comprise approximately 7% of the population. About half of these Veterans seek care within the Department of Veterans Affairs; the other half receive their health-care services in the wider community. Community providers should be familiar with the unique needs of Veterans and the resources that exist to provide care for them. This article discusses the unique culture of Veterans, conditions that are more common among Veterans and the challenges these conditions may pose, and the resources available to Veterans through the Veterans Health Administration.
