Abstract: This commentary explores the often-overlooked contributions and challenges faced by caregivers in America, with a focus on military and veteran caregiving. It highlights the emotional, financial, and social toll on individuals like Karla Seijas, who support loved ones coping with conditions such as PTSD. Drawing on findings from recent RAND studies, the piece emphasizes the scale of caregiving in the United States, the financial equivalence of their unpaid labor, and the pressing need for better mental health support, financial compensation, and systemic recognition of caregivers.
