Abstract: The article discusses a study by Leder and colleagues, published in the issue which examined how adding a self-reported gender identity field to the electronic health record (EHR) affects estimates of health conditions among transgender and gender diverse (TGD) veterans receiving services from the U.S. Veterans Health Administration (VHA). Topics include percentage of TGD adults that have served in the U.S. armed forces, risk faced by TGD veterans, and significance of the study.
