Abstract: Working in the military can be challenging. Military members face a unique set of stressful demands at work, such as being deployed and engaging in combat. Additionally, they face regular work demands, such as having too much work to do or not feeling valued. Both types of work demands can increase stress and reduce well-being. Despite this, there also are positive aspects about working in the military. For example, members have a strong sense of purpose, duty, and identity, and they work in an environment that fosters camaraderie and cohesion. Key stress, well-being, and healthy workplace models were integrated into a framework to help militaries identify these positive work aspects that lead to well-being and negative aspects that can lead to stress. Types of interventions to increase supports to military members were also identified.
