Abstract: Health literacy describes a person's ability to access, process and understand health information [1]. This competence often determines individual health-related decisions and behavior. In shipping, it is often necessary for seafarers to independently and prudently take care of their health needs and mental well-being on board. Strong psychophysical stressors and permanent exposure to stressful environmental factors characterize, among other things, the everyday work of a ship's crew - both in the navy and in merchant shipping.
