Abstract:Since the creation of the Continental Army in 1775, the U.S. military has maintained one of the most robust and most advanced all-volunteer fighting forces in the world. Service members wear the uniform with pride as they proudly protect U.S. interests. Upon completion of service, members are given a designation based on the supposed quality served. This designation directly impacts the eligibility for benefits and the conditions of reintegrating into the community. Honorably discharged veterans receive full eligibility for benefits and services, while dishonorably discharged veterans are restricted from benefits designated by Veteran Affairs. Apparent economic and social disparities between these two groups could lead to fiscal consequences for the community. This study will assess Community-Based Organizations and veteran referral processes.
