Abstract:Since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, hospitalization and mortality rates associated with COVID-19 have consistently been higher than those for seasonal influenza.1-3 However, during the 2024 to 2025 influenza season, a surge in influenza cases and hospitalizations raised the question of whether influenza-related hospitalization and mortality may have now exceeded those of COVID-19.4 This study evaluated rates of positive tests, hospitalizations, and deaths for COVID-19 and influenza across the past 3 influenza seasons.
