Abstract:Debates persist regarding the cardiovascular health effects of cannabis use. However, the prevalence of cannabis use among medically vulnerable populations, such as military veterans and older adults, continues to increase. Population-based data estimate that past 30-day cannabis use is more than twice as prevalent among military veterans compared with their civilian counterparts. US military veterans have higher rates of qualifying medical conditions, such as chronic pain and posttraumatic stress disorder, that may medically justify cannabis use yet complicate comorbidity management. This article discusses the implications of cannabis use on physical health.
