Abstract: U.S. veterans have low human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates, putting them at high risk for HPV infection and HPV-associated cancer. This DNP project engaged male veterans aged 27-45 years to improve HPV vaccination rates. A comparative analysis was conducted between existing clinical practice and a shared clinical decision-making intervention. The intervention resulted in a statistically significant increase in vaccination uptake. Veterans also answered questions about knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs related to HPV and vaccination, resulting in four themes: HPV awareness, role of vaccination in cancer prevention, importance of having a trusted healthcare provider, and vaccination apathy.
