“But Meanwhile the Dead Poison Us and Those Who Come after Us”: The Presence of Ghosts in Veterans’ Writing and Art and the Implications for Medical Professionals
Abstract: This article reviews the use of ghosts in veterans’ writing and art from world war one to present day. The review suggests that by using the ghost to connect narrative medicine, writing therapies, art therapies, and PTSD treatment we can open up dialogue and emotional rhythm. In doing this we may be afforded a pathway into the veterans injury, which hopefully may enable us to create a pathway out for the veteran.
