Abstract: These four snapshots, created by the author, originate from ongoing doctoral research exploring how military life shapes British service children’s identity and educational experiences. The research was undertaken in five English state schools (chosen for their varying service child populations) during the 2022–23 academic year. Over a series of sessions, 19 children aged 9 to 16 years engaged with several creative activities including self-portraits and relational maps and timelines, supported by exploratory questions and group discussion. The choice to use creative methods as the methodology for this research offered the children a way to explore identity and educational experiences by providing time for personal reflection and choice in expression.
