Abstract: This research aimed to understand the lived experience of part time reservists and how they balance family and civilian work with their military commitments. Results demonstrate the sacrifice many part time members of the reserves and their families make to support this balancing act. It is also clear that MoD internal policies and practice can hinder this delicate balance and have a negative impact on retention.
